Areas
There are many areas and tiny villages in and around the Paphos and Polis area. We have listed below the main areas of interest, but to get a real idea of the villages and their locations, a couple of days driving around will give you a much better perspective.
PAPHOS:- The town of Paphos is set on a hill above Kato Paphos with it’s extensive range of shops. There is a daily market adjacent to a number of restaurants and tavernas with views of the Kato Paphos and the sea.
KATO PAPHOS:- This area covers the sea front area up to Paphos town. This is the main tourist area and includes the lovely Paphos harbour with its Castle, shops, bars, and restaurants. Included within this area is “UNIVERSAL”, this is a large residential area a short walk away from the seafront, and quite a popular area for holiday rentals.
CHLORAKAS:- This is an expanding village situated on the outskirts of Paphos town. It has it’s own community with a large supermarket, shops (including electrical, hardware garden and furniture), and restaurants.
TALA:- Tala is a lovely village located on the hillsides of Paphos with wonderful panoramic views. This is quite a prestigious area with the benifit of cooler, less humid air during the hot summer months. It is a very well cared for traditional village with a close British community along with fab village square comprising village pub, and restaurants where you can sit with a glass of local vino and watch the world go by.
PEYIA:- Peyia is situated about 10 miles (15km) along the coast from Paphos. It is located about 3km behind the popular beach resort of CORAL BAY. The village / town is quite enchanting with it’s many amenities including “Phillipos Supermarket”, (Phillipo pretty much stocks everything!) banks, restaurants, butchers, bakery, chemist, police station, and even a delivery pizza / pasta shop. (This is great). Peyia clings to the side of one of the most photogenic stretches of coastline in the area, and is ideal for both residential and investment purposes.
POLIS:- This is very much an up and coming area, with a lovely pedestrian central square with many restaurants serving local dishes. On the outer perimeter of Polis lies Latchi, Argaka, and Neo Chorio.
LATCHI:- This is only 3km from Polis. It has a very pretty harbour with lots of lovely fresh fish restaurants and taverners. This is the perfect place to have a bottle of white, a village salad and watch the boats. NEO CHORIO is close by and overlooks Latchi. This is an up market area it’s traditional village centre and a maze of winding streets, stone cottages and small tavernas. Just around the corner of Neo Chorio are the historic baths of Aphrodite.
POLIS INLAND VILLAGES:- There are numerous villages located within the triangle of Polis, Paphos, and Peyia. These villages include Drousha, Akaourdalia, Kathikas, (these three being our own personal favourites). Stroumbi and Polemi. Each village offers a different type of living experience.
PISSOURI:- Located on the east side of Paphos, Pissouri is a traditional Cypriot village that has managed to retain it’s character. Development has been limited and well judged around the area. The views from the village are spectacular as it is set on the eastern slopes of the ridge reaching the sea at Cape Aspro. It is possible to see the shoreline all the way up to Limassol and the Troodos mountains to the North. Aphrodite Hills golf resort is close by, along with Pissouri beach which is clean and sandy.
